On a summer Sunday, my friend, Jinah and I decided to check out La Société (Toronto)’s new menu and catch up over Parisian inspired settings. They seated us on the upstairs patio filled with Parisian decor, and brought us back to Paris when we sat and people watched over baked goods and coffee to start. The new menu by Executive Chef Ben Heaton includes a fresher, lighter approach to classic dishes while enjoying an inspired and dynamic French bistro in the heart of Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood.
To start we ordered:
Croissant
Alsatian Danish
Beignets
Coffee
Our favourite out of the baked goods was definitely the freshly deep-fried Beignets.
For our mains we ordered (a lot to taste and packed it to go because yes this was a lot of food as the portions were quite generous):
Assiete de Charcuterie consisting of cured meats, house made pate, pickles and grilled baguette
Buttermilk Pancakes covered with blueberries and maple syrup butter
Lobster Benny with hollandaise and pommes Lyonnaise
Short Rib Hash that is served with braised short rib, poached eggs, hollandaise and pommes Lyonnaise
My go-to dish would be the buttermilk pancakes – sweet and generous with the blueberries and maple syrup butter as pancakes should be! Overall our experience was great. The service was fast, the ambiance was romantic reminding us of Paris, and the food definitely showcased flavours from France. La Société also has an array of daily specials but in my opinion Saturdays and Sundays is the best bang for buck with your meal. You can indulge in limitless cava, mimosas, and house caesars for $35! Who can say no to that?! For now, if we ever want to be sent back to Paris this will have to do!
