A few weeks ago, Valentine’s Day got me thinking about something. When I think about Valentine’s Day, I think about all the different kinds of love out there – for your partner, your tribe, your parents, your family, your friends, and so many more. However you chose to celebrate, I hope it was meaningful. After all, the true meaning of Valentine’s Day comes down to one thing: L-O-V-E.
This year was super fun and new for our family. While Roy and I always loved spending some quality time together on Valentine’s Day (don’t get me wrong, we always kept it pretty low key), this year we shared it with our favourite third wheel, Miles! So, instead of thinking of ways to get some time away from the little guy, we decided to include him in some Valentine’s Day festivities, maybe even some new traditions we could make together.
We baked some simple but super adorable Heart-Shaped Ombré Sugar Cookies (see post and recipe here). It was SO much fun watching and teaching Miles the art of baking (aka being precise and patient)! It was messy, sometimes even hectic but honestly, this kid loves his toy kitchen set at home, and watching us cook all the time, that I have a feeling he got a little something out of it too (and not just the cookies themselves)!
After the mess, we were on dishwasher duty. Miles is pretty good at helping out now: he’ll hand over the spoons and small bowls for me to load into the dishwasher. I mean, sometimes, he’ll load them out thinking they’re done already, but he’ll get there one day I’m sure! If you guys remember, I recently posted about our LG QuadWash® Steam dishwasher we had installed at our in-laws home since we’re there all the time. You can read more details about its features on this blog post.
In all honesty, the top rack is CLUTCH! It saves me from finding Miles’ spoons and forks and our chopsticks at the bottom of the dishwasher after the wash. The lower rack also has customizable bars to make space for larger bowls and dishes, while the middle is perfect for cups, and top rack dishwasher safe items.
For us, Valentine’s Day still meant that we showed a little extra care to one another, but it’s totally fine to be making memories with your tribe too! My hope is that one day, Miles understands why we decided to bake cookies together as a family, and why he gifted them to his loved ones afterwards.
