You guys wanted to see it – so here it is! Miles’ playroom (here) turned into big boy room/playroom is ready. Surprisingly he doesn’t actually get out of bed at night to play with his toys which I initially thought may happen…instead he runs into our room. You win some, you lose some!
I find boy’s rooms to be a bit trickier to style without it feeling too “boyish.” Like Nora’s room, I wanted his room to have a little bit of a theme. If you know Miles, you know he absolutely loves water. It may be because we started swimming lessons early on (around 3 months) but he has loved water ever since. Last year during our trip to Hawaii, I purchased a print that I hoped would fit into his room one day. It’s the one on the Wall Pegboard, waiting to be framed. To play off this theme, I tried to add hints of the sea such as the little turtle on his bed, octopus and starfish on his dresser and prints that would grow with him. I’m waiting for a banner to be hung right above his big boy bed so for now I’ve put a fun lion wall hanging although it doesn’t quite fit into the water theme.

Since the room functions as both a playroom and bedroom, I tried to separate the two spaces by placing an imaginary line in the middle of the room. I placed his dresser (which belonged in his old room) on the same side as his new big boy bed (Paxton Twin Bed) from Crate and Kids. They go perfectly together with the accents of light wood and white, don’t you think? I love that the twin bed is not too high, so at 2.5 years old he can climb into and out of his bed easily.
I also wanted to highlight that side of the room with an accent wall so I ended up painting the wall in Benjamin Moore’s Horizon Gray and the colour is beautiful – it has a hint of gray and isn’t too loud.

For the other side of the room, I kept it pretty much as is. I just took down the wall decor that I had there previously. I may add some shelving on this wall in the future but for now, the toys are the focus on this side. Miles was gifted some beautiful wooden toys from kiko + gg and I love that they compliment his existing Montessori toys. The wooden plane, musical instruments, cars and drawing board all play a part in this area.

I wanted to make sure he also had a small reading nook since he loves his books so much. The Franklin + Emily Chair is a great piece that gives him the ability to read his books during the day and doesn’t even look like children’s furniture. I would totally have an adult size one if they made it!

Lastly, adding details into the room is always my favourite part of the process. For instance, the Crate and Kids Mirror and Shelf above the dresser adds a bit of fun, while the prints and photos add a personal touch.
Finally, if you’ve noticed the closet is now utilized in this room to house both Nora and Miles’ outdoor clothes and shoes, along with any other dolls and toys that may not necessarily fit into his toy shelf. If you’ve been looking carefully at the photos, there’s another door in the room! Do you see it now? It’s actually a bathroom and currently under a mini reno but it’s actually perfect for Miles so that he can run to the bathroom himself if he needs to in the middle of the night. I may be getting a little ahead of myself but hey it’s there! Let me know if you want to see the before and after below.
