I still remember our first maternity shoot with Whitney Heard in 2017. It was our first pregnancy and I felt so uncomfortable with the weight gain, the discomfort of the body changes and of course that emotional weight of becoming a first time mom. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved our first maternity shoot in an apple orchard and a dahlia flower field (see blog post here), but back then I would have never wanted to be captured half naked!
This time around, pregnant with baby number two, I felt much more in my own skin. I cared less about the weight gain and changes; I embraced them as they came. In fact, I think I had taken about a handful of photos of my belly the first time around, but this time, I wanted to document it all and really enjoy the growing baby girl inside me. I can’t show you all the images today because they’re meant more for us to capture our second pregnancy and the joy to have a baby girl.
Whitney had been working on her studio for some time, and trust me if you watched her stories you can see just how much she’s poured into the space! Summerset Studios is a place for creatives to gather, and bring their ideas to life. The studio with high ceiling and the softest light is divided into spaces: the nook, lounge, main area, with details like the archways (which are absolutely beautiful) and the beauty bar (also obsessed with this little area). She’s also been intentional in making sure the space is kid-friendly for families and mamas (change table available and toys can be provided for your little ones)! I also enjoyed using the change room and even the restroom because they’re just stunning. All the details were so well-thought through and I am so excited to book her space again!
Those Archways – aren’t they absolutely beautiful?
And here are the photos you’ve been waiting for…I’m in love with all of them! Whitney even shot some on film, and you guys know how much I love film!
And…back to being clothed.
What do you guys think? Would you do a maternity shoot in some lacy lingerie or would you prefer to be captured clothed?
P.S. Special thanks to Whitney Heard and Suzie for making sure we had the perfect shoot!
